Hoover Dam - The Desert Lifeline !

Day 4 - December 27 2008 (Saturday)

From Vegas our next stop was the nearby must see Hoover Dam which is located in the border of the states of Nevada and Arizona. It is just about 40 miles away from the Vegas Strip.

Lake Mead - The reservoir of Hoover Dam welcomed us miles before the actual spot.

Owing to the slow moving long holiday traffic, some tourists got off their cars for some quick photo opportunities.

The predominant hilly terrain in the area.

Sprint before you miss

Endless blue expanse

The holiday traffic pile up

Just a few miles before the Hoover Dam is a Hotel by name Hacienda Casino. It proved to be a good stopover. At $7 we got to experience a very yummy American and Mexican buffet.

There were chopper rides for $29 each which was open only till 4 PM. We missed the opportunity as we were late. Any one planning for a Vegas trip should try this out.

A new road is being constructed near the dam. We reached the dam at about 4 PM and it was just beginning to get dark.

Flyover under construction.

Here are some pictures of the dam .

The vast Hoover Dam of the wildly unpredictable Colorado River was (flooding in the spring, drying up in the summer).

Smiling tourists

After seeing the Hoover Dam under the evening twilight and darkness, in a different dimension, we began our last lap to the Hollywood Studios (Universal Studios) in Los Angeles. We left at 6 pm in the evening and reached L A at about 10-30 PM. We checked in to the rooms and after dinner we explored the night life for a few hours and hit the sacks at 2 AM in anticipation for a day filled with excitement at Hollywood.
